Chairs That Survive the Truck: Seating for Rental Houses and Production Companies

Production chairs live a hard life. They get loaded into trucks, stacked in warehouses, rolled across cable ramps and stage decking, sat in by a different engineer every week, and loaded out again at 3am. Most office chairs in rental and production inventory don't last long, and the ones that survive are the ones nobody wants to sit in.

If you stock seating for a rental house, a production company or a touring package, here's what to look for.

Quick take

  • Inventory chairs need to survive trucks, warehouses and constant handling, not just sitting.
  • Casters matter more than anything else on show floors. 4" TourMax casters roll over cable ramps and decking.
  • Every part should be replaceable, so a broken caster or cylinder is a quick fix, not a write-off.
  • Engineers notice good chairs. Seating that clients ask for is a reason to rent from you.
  • Stocking several chairs? Ask about group pricing.

What Kills Production Chairs

Rental and production seating rarely fails from being sat in. It fails from everything else:

  • Small casters that catch on cable ramps, crack on decking and jam with debris.
  • Cheap cylinders that sink after a season of different users.
  • Arms and backrests that snap off in the truck.
  • Proprietary parts that can't be replaced, so one broken piece retires the whole chair.
“

Production chairs don't die from being sat in. They die in the truck, on the ramp and in the warehouse.

Casters Built for Show Floors

The single biggest upgrade for production seating is the caster. 4" TourMax casters roll over cable ramps, plywood decking and uneven floors instead of catching on them, and each set includes one locking caster. The Stealth Pro and Pro Executive ship with them, and they're sold separately for any Stealth chair.

For quiet stages and theaters, Stage Glide casters are non-marking and quiet, and chair glides keep a chair from rolling at all. Our caster guide covers when to use each.

Repairable Beats Replaceable

The real cost of inventory seating isn't the purchase price, it's how often you buy it again. Every Stealth part, from cylinders and casters to arms and backrests, is stocked and replaceable, and most repairs take a few minutes with basic tools. Our How to Repair page walks your shop through it.

Every chair is also backed by a 5-year warranty covering all parts against manufacturing defects, and rated for 400 lbs. That combination means a chair that takes a hit on a show comes back into service instead of going in the dumpster.

Inventory need How Stealth handles it
Rolling over cable ramps and decking 4" TourMax casters (included on Pro models, available for every chair)
A different engineer every week Two cylinders, tool-free 4D arms and an adjustable footring for quick fitting
Riser and standing-height positions Taller included cylinder, plus the X-Tall cylinder and footring
Damage in transit Every part replaceable, most repairs in minutes
Dark stages and camera shots Non-reflective midnight black, no headrest

Sizing Inventory You Don't Assign

Inventory chairs go to whoever is on the show, so you can't size them to one person. Two approaches work:

  • Stock mostly Pro. The larger seat fits the widest range of engineers, and it includes TourMax casters. Smaller users can adjust down; larger users can't adjust up.
  • Stock a mix. If you know your regulars, keep some Standards for engineers under 6'0" and 200 lbs and make the rest Pro.

Add a few Stealth Performer stools if you supply backline for seated musicians.

Which Stealth fits each person?

Every model is rated for 400 lbs, carries a 5-year warranty and ships within 48 business hours. Buying several? See group pricing.

Chairs Clients Ask For

Engineers remember gear that makes a long day easier. Stealth chairs have worked FOH and monitor world on tours for John Fogerty, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, Hunter Hayes and LeAnn Rimes, and engineers who've sat in one tend to ask for it again. For a rental house, that's a small but real reason a client picks your package. See what touring FOH engineers actually use.
