Fix my chair

Every part of a Stealth chair is replaceable and every one is in stock. Find the symptom below and it will point you at the part and the walkthrough.

1. Symptom

   The chair slowly sinks while I am sitting in it

   Usually the gas cylinder has lost its seal, which is the single most common failure on any pneumatic chair and is not repairable.

   Fix swap the cylinder. It is a ten-minute job with a rubber mallet and no special tools.

2. Symptom

   The chair rolls away from me on stage

   Usually probably the standard 60mm casters on a raked or slick deck. They are right for a carpeted control room and out of their depth on a stage.

   Fix go bigger before you go static. TourMax 4-inch touring casters roll over cables and rough deck rather than skating on them, and every caster set includes a locking wheel. Full glides are the answer only if you want the chair completely stationary.

3. Symptom

   The backrest will not stay upright

   Usually the upright adjustment knob has worn or backed out, so the backrest can no longer hold its set angle.

   Fix replace the knob. It threads straight in and needs no disassembly.

4. Symptom

   The arm rest has gone loose

   Usually the arm rest knob has stripped or loosened. On a chair used eight hours a day this is normal wear, not a fault.

   Fix fit a new knob. It is the cheapest part on the chair.

5. Symptom

   The seat wobbles or creaks when I lean forward

   Usually the seat bushings have worn. They are the sacrificial part in the mechanism, so they are meant to go before anything structural does.

   Fix replace the bushing set. Four bushings, one hex key.

6. Symptom

   The chair will not go high enough for my console

   Usually you are at the top of a standard cylinder. Front of house desks and standing racks often sit above what a normal office chair reaches.

   Fix fit an extra tall cylinder, and add a footring so your feet still have a base at that height.

7. Symptom

   The base is cracked or a caster has snapped off

   Usually the base has taken an impact, usually in transit. This is the one part worth replacing immediately rather than living with.

   Fix fit a new base. The whole mechanism unbolts from it.

8. Symptom

   The height lever does nothing when I pull it

   Usually either the lever itself has sheared, or the cylinder underneath it has failed. Check the lever first, it is the cheaper of the two.

   Fix replace the lever. If height still will not hold afterwards, the cylinder is the culprit.
