How to Outfit a Studio or Control Room: A Buyer's Checklist for Multiple Chairs

Buying one chair is easy: you sit in it, or you read the sizing guide, and you order. Buying ten for a control room, a post house or a broadcast facility is a different job. You're choosing for people you may not have measured, for positions that get shared across shifts, at desks of different heights, and you're the one who hears about it if the chairs don't hold up.

This checklist walks through what to sort out before you order seating for a whole room.

Quick take

  • Start with the people, not the room: list who sits where, roughly how tall and heavy they are, and how they work.
  • Size shared positions for the largest regular user. That usually means the Pro.
  • Match cylinder height and casters to each desk and floor before you order.
  • Plan for the long run: warranty, replaceable parts and someone to call.
  • Buying several chairs? Ask for group pricing and help planning the mix.

1. List the People and the Positions

Before you look at models, write down every seat you're filling. For each one, note:

  • Who sits there. One person, or a rotation across shifts?
  • Rough build. Height and weight are what decide between the Standard and the Pro.
  • How they work. Mostly leaned in toward a console or screen, or leaning back to listen and review?
  • The desk. Seated height, raised console or standing-height position?
  • The floor. Carpet, hard floor, stage decking or a truck?

Ten minutes on this list saves most of the guesswork later, and it's exactly what our team will ask for if you request group pricing.

2. Size Every Seat

Stealth comes in two seat sizes, and the rule is simple.

If the person or position… Choose
Is under 6'0" and under 200 lbs Stealth Standard (18.5" × 16.75" seat)
Is 6'0"+ or 200 lbs+, or close to either line Stealth Pro (20.25" × 19.5" seat)
Is shared by several people across shifts Size for the largest regular user, usually the Pro
Spends a lot of time reclined, reviewing or listening The Executive version of either size, for a larger backrest
Is a musician who plays seated The Stealth Performer stool with backrest

Every model is rated for 400 lbs, so the choice is about fit and comfort, not strength. The Standard vs. Pro guide covers the details.

In a shared room, the chair has to fit the biggest person who regularly sits in it. Everyone else can adjust down; nobody can adjust up.

3. Match the Height to the Desk

Every Stealth chair ships with two cylinders, a shorter one for seated desks and a taller one for raised consoles. Check each position:

  • Standard desks and DAW stations: the shorter cylinder.
  • Raised consoles and sit-stand desks: the taller cylinder, with the included footring.
  • Standing-height positions: add the X-Tall cylinder and an adjustable footring.

4. Pick Casters for the Floor

Casters are easy to overlook and hard to live with when they're wrong.

  • Carpet and normal hard floors: standard 2" casters.
  • Cable runs, stage decking, trucks and uneven floors: 4" TourMax casters. The Pro and Pro Executive include them.
  • Quiet rooms on hard floors: Stage Glide casters for quiet, non-marking movement.
  • Positions where the chair shouldn't roll at all: chair glides.

Our caster guide explains when to use each.

Which Stealth fits each person?

Every model is rated for 400 lbs, carries a 5-year warranty and ships within 48 business hours. Buying several? See group pricing.

5. Plan for Year Three, Not Day One

Chairs in shared rooms work harder than chairs at home. Before you buy, ask what happens when a cylinder, caster or armrest wears out.

Every Stealth chair carries a 5-year warranty covering all parts against manufacturing defects, and every part is stocked and replaceable. Most repairs take a few minutes with basic tools; our How to Repair page walks through them. That means a worn part is a quick swap, not a new chair.

6. Get One Quote for the Whole Room

Once you have your list, don't order seat by seat. Stealth offers special pricing on group purchases, and our team will review your list, suggest the right mix of models, heights and casters, and put together a single quote. You can mix every model and option in one order.

For more on laying out the room itself, see our control room furniture guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose chairs for a whole studio or control room?

List every seat, who uses it, their rough height and weight, the desk height and the floor. Then size each seat (Standard under 6'0" and 200 lbs, Pro for 6'0"+ or 200 lbs+), match the cylinder to the desk and pick casters for the floor.

What size chair should I buy for a shared position?

Size for the largest person who regularly uses it. In most shared rooms that means the Stealth Pro, since smaller users can adjust down but larger users can't adjust up.

Do you offer bulk pricing on studio chairs?

Yes. Bulk and group orders get special pricing. Send your list through the group pricing page or call (303) 693-1104.

Can I mix models in one order?

Yes. Standard, Pro, Executive and Performer models, plus cylinders and casters, can all go in one order.
